FPGAs are the ideal platform for SDI-based video systems and product design. SDI enables the high-quality reception, transmission, and processing of video for professional A/V production systems. All major FPGA vendors support SDI interfaces, ranging from SD, HD, 3G and 6G to 12G SDI. We specialize in design services and support for AMD-Xilinx FPGAs and development tools. For lower SDI rates up to 3G, AMD-Xilinx offers cost-effective Artix/Spartan FPGA families. Systems operating at these speeds typically require an RTL design approach, with Verilog being the preferred language. This preference is supported by various reference application notes, such as XAPP1097.

For 12G SDI, Xilinx offers dedicated IP core, SMPTE UHD-SDI Tx and Rx Subsystem- PG205, designed for 7 Series to Ultrascale+ and MPSoC FPGA devices. It is compatible with 7 series GTX transceivers and AMD UltraScale™ and AMD UltraScale+™ GTH transceivers. For developing solution with MPSoC , the ZCU106 evaluation board is a popular choice for developing 12G SDI solutions using Xilinx’s IP. While we leverage ZCU106 EVK as well as iWave iW-RainboW-G30D with 7EV SoM platform to design the MPSoC based SDI design ranging from 3G to 12G.
